Charles W. Baker, 75 of Brashear passed away Thursday (June 26, 2014) at Kirksville Manor Care.

The son of Paul and Grace (McKenzie) Baker, he was born May 31, 1939 in Knox County, Missouri. In 1967 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Anne Sue Ambrosia.

Charles is survived by his wife, Anne; one son, Brett Baker and wife Kelli of Kirksville; two grandchildren, Will and MacKenzie Baker; one brother, Kenny Baker and wife Linda of Hurdland, MO; two sisters, Betty Parton of Edina, MO and Bonnie Beckett and husband Richard of Ashland, MO; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brock Baker on March 25, 2013 and a half-brother, Bob Roush.

Charles grew up in Hurdland where he attended school and graduated from the Hurdland High School. He worked as a meat cutter for Stuttsmans grocery store in Edina. He entered the United States Navy where he served from 1960 to his discharge in 1964. He worked as a meat cutter, working for Riley’s grocery store in Kirksville, then in 1968 he went to work for HyVee where he worked for 22 years, for Welch’s grocery store, and then part time for Western’s Meat Market.

He was a member of the Brashear United Methodist Church, Colony Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M., served 15 years on the Brasher School Board and 10 years on the Brashear City Council. He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture for family and friends from his woodworking shop. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (July 1, 2014) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Nancy Douglas and Chaplain Paul Milliken. Burial will be at a later date in Willmathsville Cemetery.

Honorary bearers will be Raymond Buchanan, Bill Baker, Larry Sykes, Larry McKim, Harold VanSickle, Garry Stanley, Tom Story, Larry Ledford, and Pete Reeves.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday with a Masonic service to be held at 7:00 p.m. at the
