Kimberly Featherston
Kimberly Featherston, 47 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday (July 30, 2014) at her home.
The daughter of Phillip E. and Donna L. (Ross) Sorenson, she was born on October 6, 1966 in Torrance, California. In 1990 Kim was married to Andy Chambers and to this union two children were born, Taylor and Dilyne. On February 23, 2000 she was united in marriage to Edward Featherston and their daughters are Zoey and Paige Featherston.
Kim is survived by her husband Edward; and six children including, Justin (Kelli) Featherston of Kirksville, Whitney Featherston of Kirksville, Taylor Chambers and Scott Lyons of Kirksville, Dilyne Chambers of Kirksville, and Zoey and Paige Featherston of the home; her parents, Phillip and Donna Sorenson of Kirksville; two granddaughters, Carter and Lawson Lane of Kirksville; one brother, Wade (Lynn) Sorenson of Kirksville; two nieces, Jessica (Trent) Utt of Lawson, MO and Emily Sorenson of Kirksville; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kim was preceded in death by her grandparents, Pearl & Vaden Ross and Paul & Helen Sorenson.
Kim grew up in Brashear and attended school there through the eighth grade. She then graduated from the Knox County High School with the class of 1984. Kim completed the course of study at the Kirksville College of Cosmetology and worked as a cosmetologist for several years in the St. Joseph area. Upon returning to Kirksville she earned her B.S.N. degree in Nursing from Truman State University. Kim enjoyed her work as an Emergency Room nurse for 14 years at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
She was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church and the American Nurses Association. Kim, along with Pastor Sheila, was instrumental in starting a homeless assistance program through their church. She enjoyed gardening, reading, piecing quilts and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her love of books led her to open the Nook and Cranny Book Store.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (August 2, 2014) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Sheila Swafford officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
