Rick Anderson
Richard Warren “Rick” Anderson, 48, of Kirksville died July 30, 2014 at LaPlata Nursing Home while under the care of Hospice of Northeast Missouri. He had been in failing health for a number of years.
Mr. Anderson was born January 31, 1966 in Kirksville to the parents of Ernest W. and Vicki (Stewart) Anderson. He attended the Kirksville R-III Schools, graduating with the Class of 1984. Mr. Anderson received his higher education at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville and Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa and Centerville, Iowa.
Rick began a long career in broadcasting at KIRX-KRXL radio on his 18th birthday and remained with the stations until failing health forced his retirement in 2005. During his radio career he was twice honored with first place by the Missouri Broadcasters Association; in 1999 for breaking news coverage and in 2004 for commercial writing and production. He was also co-owner of The Hitman, a mobile DJ service that provided entertainment for hundreds of school dances, wedding receptions, anniversaries and similar events throughout the area. Further, a lifelong percussionist, Mr. Anderson served as drumline coach for Kirksville High School for several years. He had a deep love for, and knowledge of, American and local history and folklore which he delighted in sharing with others through the internet.
He is survived by his parents, Ernest and Mary Anderson of rural Greencastle, MO; brothers, Danny Ellsworth and wife Diane, Stanley Ellsworth and wife Denise, and sister, Martha Dyer and husband Albert all of rural Green Castle and sister, Judy McQuoid and life partner Michelle Woodrum of Zionsville, IN; along with a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Vicki (Stewart) Carter; siblings, April Lea Carter and Ellis Lee Cater, Jr.; as well as grandparents, Richard “Dick” & Luetta Stewart, Charles Warren and Odessa Anderson, and Roy and Alice Daniel as well as several great aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 16 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, with funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, with Brother Brian Carter of Grace Fellowship Church officiating. Burial will be in Forest Llewelyn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gideon Stewart, Ian Stewart, Heith Stewart, Caleb Stewart, Brad Ellsworth and Will Dyer. Honorary bearers will be Shawn Goodwin, Adam Stewart, Larry Ellsworth, Anthony Seward, Royce McQuoid, and Zac Woodrum.
