Jessie Lou Vena Skaggs, 82, of Worthington, MO passed away at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, MO on August 1, 2014.
Jessie Skaggs was born in Weona, AR on May 30, 1932. She was the daughter of J. B. and Lottie (Shaw) Tucker. Jessie was raised on the family farm, and part of that farm was deeded over to the Good Hope Baptist Church and Cemetery. On July 23, 1949 Jessie married Oran Skaggs in Clay County, AR because they were too young to get married in MO. They were childhood sweethearts.
Jessie kept busy with her favorite craft projects of quilting, crocheting, and macrame. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Grandin and Doniphan and the Good Hope Baptist Church in Grandin, MO. Jessie spent most of her life watching over her neighbors, family, and friends. She assisted with cooking and housekeeping for those who lost their spouses or friends needing nursing care assistance. After Oran’s death in 2004, Jessie moved to Worthington to be closer to family, but never stopped helping generously. She planned weekly shopping and dinner outings with local widows and would be their chauffer. Jessie’s giving heart will be greatly missed.
