Corey Phipps, 40, of Unionville, MO, passed away quietly at his home in Unionville on Saturday, August 9, 2014.

Corey Dwight Phipps was born in Oskaloosa, IA, on August 23, 1973, the son of Leslie Dwight and Waneta Ione (Lisk) Phipps Adkins. Corey graduated from Putnam County High School in 1992. He had a son, Seth, with Judy Sizemore. Corey moved to Brooklyn, IA, after high school and then moved to Marshalltown, IA, where he worked at Windco in Grinnell. He married Diane Strachota in February of 1996 and two boys were born to this union, Gage Dwight Phipps and Jesse Dwight Phipps. The marriage was later dissolved. While in Marshalltown Corey began working with Midland Transportation. He married Lanna Tingley on November 8th, 2011 and she survives in Cincinnati, IA.

Corey enjoyed his work as a carpenter, working on barns and other projects. He liked music and liked to fish. He had a great smile and was friendly to those who knew him. Corey dealt with diabetes and heart issues for most of his adult life, but he continued to be active and display a positive attitude.

Corey is survived by four sons: Gage Phipps, Jesse Phipps, Joe Thomas, and Seth Sizemore. He is also survived by one grandson . Other survivors include his mother, Waneta Adkins, of Unionville, MO, and four sisters, Marilynn Carman and husband Gary of Worthington, MO, Tina Garr and husband Danny of Unionville, MO, Amber Trout and husband Rick of Seymour, IA, and Crystal Phipps of Centerville, IA. Corey’s surviving grandmother is Ione Lisk of Whatcheer, IA.

Corey was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Franklin Phipps, and Richie Phipps.

A memorial service for Corey will take place at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO at 7:00 PM, Friday, August 15, 2014. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Corey’s body was cremated at his request and the cremains will be interred in Iowa at a later date.

Memorials to honor Corey may be made to the Putnam County Ministerial Alliance in order to assist those with medical bills. Corey’s family wants other to receive the assistance that Corey sometimes lacked. Memorials may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
