Elladean Dodd

Elladean Dodd, 86, of Unionville, MO, passed away unexpectedly at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, on Sunday, August 10, 2014.

Elladean (Wolverton) Dodd was born Wappello, IA, on January 3, 1928, the daughter of Clayton Alvie and Nellie Pauline (Wyerman) Wolverton, who preceded her in death. She married Robert Eugene Dodd in Davenport, IA, on February 3, 1943, and he preceded her in death on October 7, 2001.

Elladean and Robert began married life in Davenport where their first two children were born. They then moved to Hannibal, MO, where two more children were born. They returned to Davenport in the early 1950’s and made their home there until retiring and moving to Unionville, MO, in 1987. In addition to being a housewife and mother, Elladean worked at Crescent Macaroni (making cookies) and Davenshire where she was a seamstress. But “Granny” (as everyone knew her) never really retired. She worked at Dunlap in Unionville and then found great joy in working with the after school program (SOAR) at Putnam County R-1 and at Happy Hearts Day Care, two jobs she had until she passed away. Elladean was also a person of varied interests, who liked to do plastic canvas needlework, read romance novels, travel to the mountains, attend and follow NASCAR races, and cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.

Granny is survived by two sons, Bobby Dodd and wife Karen of Warsaw, MO, and Clayton Dodd and wife Betty of Davenport, IA; and two daughters, Nellie Shipley and husband Richard of Unionville, MO, and Sharon Eubanks of Davenport, IA. Surviving grandchildren are Elladean Shipley, Elizabeth Eubanks, Brian Shipley, Shane Dodd, Robbie Dodd, and Amy Eubanks-Donnelly. Fourteen great grandchildren survive and five great-great grandchildren survive (with two on the way). Elladean is also survived by three sisters, Jeanette Resignolo of Ft. Myers, FL, Rosalea Grass and husband Chuck of Davenport, IA, and Karin Smith of Numa, IA.

Elladean was preceded in death by son-in-law John Eubanks, a brother, Junior Wolverton, who died in infancy, and a grandson, Brandon Dodd.
Services for Elladean Dodd will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 16, 2014. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Rose Cemetery east of Unionville, MO.
