H. Edith Lay, 95 of Green Castle passed away Sunday (August 24, 2014) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

The daughter of Leonel and Hilda (Hokanson) Anderson, she was born June 6, 1919 in Salem, Idaho. In 1937 she was united in marriage to D. Kent Matney and to this union one daughter was born, Karla Kay. In 1946 she was united in marriage to Fred R. Lay and he preceded her in death on August 5, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers and sisters; one step grandchild, Bradley Lay; and one step great grandchild.

Edith is survived by one daughter, Karla Kay Morlan and husband Ronald E. of Green Castle; one step son, Douglas N. Lay of Greentop; four grandchildren, Karen (Kendall) Ponder of Jefferson City, MO, Kathleen (Randall) Hatcher of Green Castle, Krista (Thomas) Kent of Kirksville, and Michael Scott Lay; 10 great grandchildren, Elizabeth (Kyle) Stewart, Rebecca (Pete) Miller, Rachael VanSoest, Cory (Lachelle) Hatcher, Ryan (Karra) Hatcher, Kellen (Meghann) Hatcher, Megan Hatcher, Maren Hatcher, Tyler Kent, and Alexandra Kent; 16 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Edith grew up in southern Idaho and Utah and graduated from Rigby High School in Rigby, Idaho in 1937. She worked most of her life as a secretary and book keeper. She was a gifted musician, being able to play the piano and accordion by ear. She was also a gifted seamstress and artist. She enjoyed geneology, traveling and had a great love for her family.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (August 27, 2014) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Colin Sorhus officiating. Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery in Greentop, MO.

Pallbearers will be Randy Hatcher, Cory Hatcher, Ryan Hatcher, Kellen Hatcher, Tom Kent, Tyler Kent and Kendall Ponder.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday (August 26, 2014) at the
