Corey Max Bland
Corey Max Bland, 42 of Kirksville went to be with the Lord in heaven on Thursday (October 2, 2014) at University Medical Center in Columbia, MO.
Corey was born April 19, 1972 in Hamburg, Iowa. He attended Kirksville schools and graduated from Kirksville High School in 1990. In High school he participated in the COE program and worked at Kirksville Farm & Home for about one year before his accident. He loved playing baseball before his accident, loved FFA and was an officer in the Kirksville FFA Chapter for several years. He enjoyed participating in the NEMO fair showing his steer. He loved to deer, turkey and rabbit hunt, fish and playing cards.
Corey was injured on May 2, 1989 from a car – train accident on his way to his parent’s farm to go turkey hunting. He has been a fighter for life the last 25 years. He joined the wonderful family at Chariton Valley Association in 1992 and lived in an I.S.L. with other individuals with disabilities. He loved his support staff and the independence they gave him.
Corey is survived by his mother, Tanya Bland Potter and husband, Harold “David” Potter of Kirksville; his father, Rodger Bland of Green City, MO; one sister, Tina L. Bland-Johnson and husband Travis; nephew, Tyler L. Johnson and niece, Taryn L. Johnson all of Marshall, MO; three brothers, Daniel L. (Karen) Bland of Saa Pablo, Brazil, James F. (Monica) Bland of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Jeremy F. (Lori) Bland of Honolulu, Hawaii; his grandparents, Nina and Byron Stoner of Shenandoah, IA and Doris and Carold Bland of Unionville, MO; nieces, Britney and Julie Bland; nephew, Jarrin Bland-Lessary; great niece, Mikaela Bland and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a lot of people who love him.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Max Leon Bopp.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (October 7, 2014) at Cornerstone Church on W. Elizabeth Street with Pastor Jeremy Broach officiating. Burial will be in Lone Pine Cemetery near Martinstown, MO.
Pallbearers will be Clinton Schmitter, Matt Findling, Chris Findling, Travis Summers, Jonathan Summers, and Dewayne Davis. Honorary bearers will be Todd Hays, Steve Lyons, Gary Billington, Jeremy Borron, and Sammie Heaton.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
