Sam H. Stewart

Sam H. Stewart 78, of Kirksville passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014, at the University Medical Center in Columbia, MO.

The son of Robert and Mary Della (Potter) Stewart, Sam was born June 6, 1936 in Kirksville, MO. On June 14, 1956 in Kirksville, he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Bartmess who preceded him in death.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Garnett, Richard and Teddy Stewart; three sisters, Caroline Williams, Carol Alger and Collen Schrage and one daughter, Donna Lynn Stewart.

Sam is survived by two sons, David Stewart and wife, Amanda of and John Stewart and wife, Jackie all of Kirksville; two daughters, Becky Stufflebean and husband, George of Kirksville and Teresa Longano and husband, John of Kirksville; thirteen grandchildren, Samuel, Luke, Timothy and David Stewart, Charlotte Reed, Alicia Longano, Marissa Harrison and husband, Lennie, Danae McKim and husband, Casey, Ashley Broadwell and husband, Bradley, Kevin Dunlap, Cordal Stewart, Brett Stufflebean and wife, Kim and Elizabeth Shottenkirk and husband, Buddy; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Sara Stitzer and husband, Andy of Kirksville and Norma McKim and husband, Larry of Brashear, MO and several nieces and nephews.

Sam was reared in the Kirksville area attending the Kirksville public schools. He and his father started a trash route business which they operated for twenty-five years. Later he was employed with the City of Kirksville as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1994. He liked to hunt, fish, go camping and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Everyone who knew him, liked and loved him and he will be sadly missed.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Ralph Wheeler officiating. Musical selections will be “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “If You Get There Before I Do”. Burial will be in the Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery in Kirksville, MO.

Pallbearers will be Samuel Stewart, Lennie Harrison, John Longano, Jamie Sizemore, Rob Nickell and Mike McFarland.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday (October 28, 2014) at the
