Betty Ann Workman
April 27, 1930-October 31, 2014

Betty Ann (Summers) Workman, 84, departed this life peacefully on Friday evening, October 31, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born at home in Kirksville, Missouri on April 27, 1930, the second daughter of Gail and Dott Summers. She attended Kirksville High School, graduating in 1948.

She married George L. (“Duke”) Workman of Lewistown on August 26, 1951, creating a union of deep love and devotion that would last 63 years.

Betty Ann worked at the International Shoe Company in Kirksville after high school until Duke returned from Korea. They made their home in Hannibal, Missouri beginning in August, 1954. During their years in Hannibal, Betty Ann worked at Western Printing, Mellers Photo and Pettibone Elementary School as a special education teacher’s aide. After Betty Ann and Duke raised their family, they returned to Kirksville in 1993 to enjoy their retirement years.

Betty Ann was a very energetic personality. She was devoted to her family and kind to everyone she met. She enjoyed swing dancing with Duke, playing cards with her friends and softball in her youth. She was organized in all things and gave new definition to “clean, neat and tidy.”

Betty Ann is survived by her husband, son and daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, to whom she was devoted and loved dearly. She lives on in the memory and lives of her husband, Duke; and her children: Mark Stephen (Beth Hudson) of Kirksville (grandson Samuel); and Shari Gail Welch (Stephen) of Seattle, Washington (grandsons: Lucas (and great-granddaughter Brooklyn) and John (Audrey)).

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carol Jean Hendren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday (November 8, 2014) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Maple Hills Cemetery with Chaplain Carrol Davenport officiating.
