Jimmy Perkins
James “Jimmy” Perkins was born July 27, 1932 in Lineville, Iowa, and went to heaven , from his home in Unionville, MO, on Nov. 3, 2014.
The son of Peter Clarence “Pete” and Margaret “Maggie Kelly” Perkins, Jimmy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
On August 15, 1990, he married Carol Gillispie Webber who survives of the home. Jimmy is also survived by his daughter, Diana Michaelis, of Princeton, MO, son, Frank Perkins, of Chariton, IA, and step-son, Erik Webber, of Grain Valley, MO. He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Jimmy graduated from Lineville High School in 1950 and joined the USAF in January 1951. He served his country until his retirement in 1972. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he enjoyed a career doing construction work in which he took great pride.
Jimmy was also a community leader who loved serving wherever he lived. As mayor of Lineville, he spent 12 years making many wonderful changes and improvements to the town. He was a devoted member of the American Legion in both Lineville and Unionville. Through this membership he acted as an advocate, sharing with others the importance of respecting and recognizing the sacrifice of active-duty servicemen/women and veterans.
Those who knew him best will remember him as a man with a great sense of humor and an outgoing personality, who always had a new project in the works and time to help anyone in need. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and sisters, and a son-in-law.
A memorial service for Jimmy will be held Wed., Nov. 5, at 11:00 a.m. at the Unionville Christian Church. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville, IA.
Memorials for Jimmy are suggested to the American Legion Post #34 for help in their flag program. Memorials may be entrusted with Playle & Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO 63565.
