Laura Jean Nevins
Laura Jean Nevins, 83, of Kirksville passed away Friday (December 12, 2014) at her home.
The daughter of Max Harlan and Mina Rose (Mulford) Green, she was born January 30, 1931 in Kirksville, MO. She was united in marriage to James Nevins on August 28, 1954 in the Methodist Church in Browning, MO.
Jean is survived by her husband, James; four children, Terry Nevins and wife Trina of Elko, NV, Mike Nevins and wife Sandy of New Port Richie, FL, Laurie Bragg of Platte City, MO, and Russ Nevins and wife Lori of Lees Summit, MO; one sister, Barbara Green of Mission, KS; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Rose Green, two brothers, Bob and Jimmy, and a grandson, Shaun Nevins.
Jean attended school in Galt, MO before moving to Browning, MO where she graduated from the Browning High School in 1949. Jean married Jim Nevins upon his return from the Korean War. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. Later she became employed at the Singer Sewing Center in Kirksville.
Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Hands of Friendship Quilt Guild, Southernaires, and the Shrine Jewels. She was an accomplished quilter and seamstress, and had received numerous awards for her quilting. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tole painting, and ceramics.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (December 16, 2014) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home located at 2100 E. Shepherd Ave. Kirksville, MO 63501. Phone 660-665-2233. Reverend Richard Northcutt will be officiating. Burial will be in the Jenkins Cemetery in Browning, MO.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, also at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ron Gaber, David Erwin, Ray Klinginsmith, Riley Nevins, Logan Osborne, and Jake Noel. Honorary Pallbearer is Dave Mustoe.
