Wayne Doolin, 78, of rural Lucerne, MO, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 22, 2014.

Leonard Wayne Doolin was born in rural Pollock, MO, on October 5, 1936, the son of Virgil “Paul” and Opal (Hill) Doolin, who preceded him in death. He was reared in rural Putnam County and graduated from Newtown-Harris High School in 1955. He married Verla Wattenbarger on September 25, 1956 and she passed away on September 6, 2000. Wayne and Verla lived and farmed on route EE in Putnam County until 1968 when they bought the home place and moved their. They continued their farming operation, raising hogs, beef cattle and crops. Wayne also drove a bus for Newtown-Harris High School for several years. He was often asked to drive for the Senior Trip.

Wayne was a hard working man. He enjoyed attending the country music shows at Lake Rathbun and Laredo, MO. He was one of the founding members of the Medicine Creek Fire Protection District and served as president in the early years. Wayne loved and enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Wayne is survived by two daughters, Kathy Doolin of Lucerne, MO, and Linda Smith of Sturgeon, MO, and one son, Danny Doolin of Lucerne, MO. Five grandchildren also survive as well as 15 great grandchildren and Mary Carrall, a companion of several years. A sister, Helen Pauley of Trenton, MO, also survives.

Wayne was preceded in death a great grandchild, Georgie Green, a brother, Eldon Doolin, and three sisters, Juanita Doolin, Dorothy Gibson, and Erma Gibson.

Funeral services for Wayne Doolin will be at the Newtown Christian Church at 2:30 pm on Sunday, December 28, 2014. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. Interment will be at the Newtown Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO.

Memorials are suggested to the Newtown Cemetery or the Medicine Creek Fire Protection District and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
