Richard Lee Crooks, 80 of Florissant, MO passed away Monday (December 22, 2014) at Parkwood Nursing Center in Maryland Heights, MO.

The son of Kermit Elgin and Edith Mae (Cassady) Crooks, he was born May 23, 1934 in Putnam County, MO. On September 23, 1961 at First Baptist Church in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Maleen Anne Peterson.

Richard is survived by his wife, Maleen; one son, Dr. John Richard Crooks and wife Kathy in Avon Lake, OH; Susan Leatherberry of Florissant, MO; one brother, Roger Crooks and wife Kathy of Davenport, IA; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Amy, Andrew, Deanne and Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard graduated from Unionville High School with the class of 1952. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. In 1961 he began his teaching career at Jennings Junior High School in St. Louis County, where he taught junior high science until he retired.

He was a member of Missouri State Teachers Association and National Education Association. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball when his children were young.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (December 27, 2014) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Paul Crooks, John Crooks, Mark Crooks, Kelly Crooks, Kim Crooks and Dwight Peterson.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the
