Carl Lorenz Lovekamp

Carl Lovekamp, 82, of Greentop, Mo. passed away Tuesday night (December 30, 2014) in Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The son of Lorenz E. and Jessie Opal (Beck) Lovekamp he was born April 18, 1932 in Queen City. On February 1, 1958, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Heaton and to this marriage two children were born, Kevin Lorenz and Karla Ann.

Carl attended Fairview Rural School and the Queen City Public School, graduating from high school with the class of 1951. He worked in Rockford after graduation for a short time before joining the United States Navy in March of 1952. He was honorably discharged in February of 1956. Following his discharge he farmed in the summers with his father and worked winters in Rockford doing factory work, until his marriage. Following his marriage he farmed until his retirement. He was also acting Postmaster in Queen City from 1959 to 1962.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn, his children Kevin Lorenz Lovekamp and wife Karen of Kearney, Mo., and Karla Metten and husband Reggie of Fort Lee, Va. eight grandchildren: Gunnar Lorenz Lovekamp, Stephanie Oliver, Jennie Palmer and husband Jake, Amanda Beeler, Kristen Beeler, Marissa Beeler, Billy Metten, and Emily Metten. two great, grandchildren Payton Oliver and Preslee Oliver. Carl is also survived by a brother Olin Lovekamp of Queen City, a sister Reba Gehrke and husband Lendal of Kansas City, two nieces Kathy Shields and Starr Gehrke and three nephews, Terry Lovekamp, Trent Gehrke and Kene Gehrke.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ivan Lee Lovekamp in 1945, his step-mother Pauline Lyberger Lovekamp, and a sister-in-law Mary Wood Lovekamp.

Carl accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Queen City where he taught a Sunday School class. He was Sunday School Superintendent for several years, and was on the Church Council.

He was a hardworking man who loved his Church and his family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (January 3, 2015) in the St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Iammatteo-Code officiating. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gunner Lovekamp, Trent Gehrke, Kene Gehrke, Terry Lovekamp, Tommy Baxter, and Brad Hornung. Honorary bearers will be Henry Schubert, Goob Schubert, Russell Bushnell, Mark Bushnell, Virgil Schmitter, and David Shields.

Visitation will be held after 1:30 p.m. Friday (January 2, 2015) with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, Mo. 63561.
