Kenneth Willard Alexander

Kenneth Willard Alexander of Queen City, Missouri passed away on January 1, 2015.

The son of William Jennings Bryan and Ruth (Brenizer) Alexander, he was born December 6, 1924 near Greentop, Missouri. On August 10, 1947 he was married to Doris Thurman who survives. On August 10th, 2014 they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.

Also surviving are three daughters, Joyce Spray of Kirksville, Barbara Puskar Dendy of Houston, TX and Susan Alexander of Queen City; seven grandsons, Kenny Spray of Lancaster, Bryan Spray of Midland, PA, Matthew Spray of Kirksville, Joshua Puskar of Spring, TX, Jordan Puskar of Houston, TX, 1st Lt. Kristopher Edson of Clarksville, TN and Craig Edson of Denver, CO, and one granddaughter, Jessica Puskar of Dallas, TX; five great grandchildren, Afton Spray, Addison Spray, Cryen Cassidy, Luna Spector, Zolie Puskar, Donovan Puskar, and Amaura Spray; one brother, Paul and wife Janette of Hot Springs, AR, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, R.E. Alexander; and sister, Mary Virginia Tobler.

Willard attended the Chilly Grove rural school and graduated from Queen City High School in 1943. He joined the Lutheran Church and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1943. He was a pilot in the Army Air Corp, flying many types of aircraft. He was training in the B29 with orders to go overseas when World War II ended.

Willard attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College where he met Doris. After their marriage in 1947, they moved to California where he attended the University of California at Los Angeles. He graduated from UCLA in 1949 and was the Controller for Westhard Lumber Company for five years before bringing his family back to Missouri in 1954. He and his brother operated the John Deere dealership in Greentop while also farming. For many years the family attended the Christian Church in Greentop. The family moved to a farm west of Greentop in 1960, them moved to Queen City in 1971. Willard started working in the postal service in 1961 as the Postmaster in Greentop and later became a rural route carrier. He retired from the postal service in 1989 after 29 years.

Willard was a long time member of the Queen City Christian Church where he was a member of the board for several years. He was an active member of the Greentop Lodge #635 AF&AM where he had received his 50 year member pen. He was a member of the Schuyler County Post 784 American Legion. He and Doris were members of the NoMo Bulldogs Camping Club for many years.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday (January 5, 2014) at Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor George Bradburn and Pastor Jeremy Broach officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Queen City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Spray, Joshua Puskar, Kristopher Edson, Jessica Puskar, Craig Edson, Matthew Spray, and Jordan Puskar. Honorary bearer will be Bryan Spray.

Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday with a Masonic service held at 6:00 p.m. at the
