Leon Schmitter, 77, passed away Tuesday (January 20, 2015) at his home in Queen City.

The son of Otto Franklin and Neta Pauline (Lasley) Schmitter, he was born in rural Lancaster, Missouri where he grew up and attended the Lancaster Public School graduating with the class of 1955. He them attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO, graduating in May of 1959 with a degree in Agriculture.

On September 5, 1959 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Robinson and to this marriage two daughter were born, Lisa and Marla. On November 15, 1975, he was united in marriage to Maxine Kent and they just celebrated their thirty-ninth anniversary.

Leon is survived by his wife, Maxine; his daughters, Lisa Pearson and husband Terry of Kirksville, and Marla Elder and husband Ted of Greentop; one brother, Darrell Schmitter; step-son, Jim Robbins and step-daughter, Lynn Oliver and husband James; thirteen grandchildren, Micheal Robinson and wife Alicia, Matthew Pearson and wife Laura, Joshua Pearson and wife Rebecca, Sasha Robinson, Sarah Elder, Jeff Robbins, Stephanie Strobel and husband Mark, Jamie Oliver and wife Alaina, Clayton Robbins and wife Christine, Daniel Robbins and wife Annette, Natalie Kita, Sarah Beales, and Seth Robbins; and seventeen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Schmitter and two step-sons, David Robbins and Bob Robbins.

Leon was in the Army National Guard in the 1960’s and served his active duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He worked at the MFA Fertilizer Plant, MFA Exchange, Stamper Feeds, and for several years had his own business, Schmitter Farm Supply in Queen City, and then worked for MFA Oil and Propane retiring from there in 2000.

He was a member of the Queen City Baptist Church. He loved to garden, taking care of his chickens, and keeping his yard looking good.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (January 24. 2015) at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Micheal Robinson, Matthew Pearson, Joshua Pearson, Clayton Robbins, Daniel Robbins, and Jamie Oliver.

Visitation will be held after 12:00 p.m. Friday (January 23, 2015) with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the
