Dean McCormack

Dean McCormack, 85, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, MO, on Wednesday, January 21, 2015.

Harold Dean McCormack was born around Lemons, MO, on September 28, 1929, the son of John William and Verna Lovell (Young) McCormack who preceded him in death. After being reared in that area of Putnam County, he married Jo Ann Livingston in Pollock, MO, on June 4, 1949. Jo Ann passed away on May 6, 2014.

Dean and Jo Ann started married life in Kansas City, MO, both working separate jobs. Later they moved to Pollock, MO, to Iowa, and then back to Lemons, MO. Dean purchased a milk route in 1959 and Jo Ann worked along side, picking up and making deliveries and keeping the books. They became the owners and operators of McCormack’s MFA service station in 1963 and built a new facility in 1970. Dean was a fair and hard working business man, often keeping the station open late into the night, seven days a week. The business was sold to their son Mike in 1995, but Dean was a frequent visitor. Dean and Jo Ann lived in Lemons until 1980 when they moved to Unionville.

Dean was an active volunteer at the Putnam County Fair for over 30 years. He worked behind the scenes most of the time and managed the food stand for a number of years. Dean loved kids and they always got bubble gum and candy from the service station. He liked the outdoors, to cook on the barb-e-que grill and to travel with Jo Ann in their RV. He began wood working in his retirement years, making jewelry boxes and other items. Dean was a member of the First Christian Church in Unionville, MO.

Dean is survived by three sons, Larry McCormack and wife Joyce of Unionville, MO; Randy McCormack and wife Debbie of Punta Gorda, FL; Mike McCormack and wife Tina of Unionville, MO; and one daughter, Dee Ann Fuller and husband Garry of Jefferson City, MO. Surviving grandchildren are Nathan McCormack, Chris McCormack, Matt McCormack, Jenny DeBerry, Joshua McCormack, Megan McCormack, Shawn McCormack, Shayla (Daniel) Spring, James Fuller, Shelby Fuller, and Hayden Fuller. Twelve great grandchildren also survive as well as a brother, William McCormack of Ashland, MO, and a sister, Karen (Wayne) Eitel of Holt, MO. Dean is survived by three sisters-in-law, Mary McCormack, Janice Sharp and Linda (Wendell) Fleshman and a brother-in-law, Dwight Dickerson. Several nieces and nephews also survive Dean.

Dean was also preceded in death by a brother, Eldon McCormack, a sister, Leatrice Dickerson, and a brother and sister who died in infancy, Raymond and Mildred.
