James Rae

James Rae, 69 of Kirksville passed away Monday (March 16, 2015) at his home.

The son of Ralph and Betty (Goodwin) Rae, he was born June 8, 1945 in Kirksville, MO. On June 11, 1965 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Judith L. Whittom and she preceded him in death on April 12, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Shawna.

James is survived by three sons, Shain Rae and wife Emily of Sunny Isles, FL, Tyson Rae and wife Jamie of Kansas City, MO and Sagan Rae of Kirksville; two grandchildren, Adain and Brody Rae; one brother, David Rae and wife Nancy of Salisbury, MO; and one sister, Donna Powell and husband Gene of Ballwin, MO.

James was born and raised in Kirksville and graduated from Kirksville High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, FL as an Aircraft Mechanic. He worked as a meat cutter at the Kirksville HyVee for 28 years and then at the Kirksville Post Office for 16 years until he retired.

He was an avid outdoorsman, a craftsman, and master of all things. He loved to fish; was a competitive shooter and was a professional story teller.

He has joined his wife of 40 years and daughter in heaven.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (March 21, 2015) at the Central Church of Christ with Dan Todd officiating. A private burial will follow the service.

Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Church.
