Marjorie Irene McElroy

Marjorie Irene McElroy, 88 of Kirksville passed away Thursday (April 2, 2015) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

The daughter of Willard and Nellie (Jones) Lewis, she was born July 22, 1926 in Downing, MO. On December 24, 1946 in Kansas City, KS she was united in marriage to Lester McElroy and to this union seven children was born.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Shirley Searl of Knoxville, TN, Dennis McElroy of Clearwater, FL, Donnie McElroy and wife Nancy of Downing, MO, Karen Carolan and husband Jerry of Greentop, MO, David McElroy and wife Penny of Roseville, IL, Robert McElroy of Kirksville, and Kenneth McElroy and wife Lisa of Colona, IL; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; longtime friend and fiancée, Earl Shockey; two sisters and five brothers, Sherman Lewis, Eugene Lewis, Leo Lewis, James Lewis, John Lewis, Virginia Hartsock and Maxine Shoop; and one grandson, Ashley McElroy.

Marjorie lived in Schuyler County all her life until moving to Adair County in 1981. She worked at Hollister’s from 1969 until she retired in 1992.

She was a member of the Brushy Undenominational Church and attended the First United Methodist Church. She loved traveling and playing bingo.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (April 18, 2015) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Northcutt officiating. Burial of her remains will be in the Arni Cemetery in Lancaster, MO.
