George Brundage
George Brundage, 90, of Unionville, MO, passed away suddenly at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, MO, on Saturday, April 25, 2015, after suffering a stroke.
George Oakley Brundage was born south of Lucerne, MO, on February 2, 1925, the son of Virgil Leonard and Tressie Opal (Oakley) Brundage, who preceded him in death. He attended rural schools in Putnam County and graduated from Lucerne High School in 1941. He then attended business school in Kansas City for six months, then came back to Putnam County to work for Max Carter, before starting to farm for himself. George married Loretta Templeton in Unionville, MO, on April 9, 1950, and she survives at home. The couple just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
George was an influential figure in Putnam County. He served as County Clerk for several years and two years as Presiding Commissioner. He also was an officer with the Putnam County Fair Board for a number of years, often working to secure the entertainment, and served as treasurer for many years for the West Liberty Cemetery. George worked at Farmers Bank of Unionville for 15 years where he will be remembered for his honesty and integrity in all his business dealings. However, George’s true passion was farming and caring for his livestock, especially sheep.
George came to saving faith in Jesus Christ at a tent revival at Midway in July, 1962. He was baptized soon afterward in the Templeton pond. George let his faith be the driving force of his life and family. He lived a consistent and godly life and was faithful in his service to the church. He taught Sunday School for a number of years as well as serving as treasurer.
George enjoyed watching Kansas City Royals baseball, tending to his garden and orchard, reading and country music. He was an avid supporter of all his grandchildren’s activities.
In addition to Loretta, survivors include sons Eddie (Pat) Brundage and Marty (Julie) Brundage of Unionville, MO; and daughters Jan (George) Parry of Blue Springs, MO and Janelle (Vince) Jackson of Holt, MO. George is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. A brother, Finis (Sue) Brundage of Mill Grove, MO, and a sister, Anna Lee Blanchard of Lucerne, MO, as well as brother in law, Guy (Carol) Templeton, of Soddy Daisy, TN also survive brother in law, Guy (Carol) Templeton, of Soddy Daisy, TN
George was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Keith Brundage, and a sister, Mardell Valentine, as well as an infant granddaughter, Emily Brundage.
Funeral services for George Brundage will be held at Midway Baptist Church at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Visitation will be at the church on Monday, April 27 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be at the West Liberty Cemetery west of Unionville, MO. Services are under the direction of Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO.
