Vernon R. Gillespie
Vernon R. Gillespie 74, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015, at his home in Worthington, Missouri.
The son of Ray and Odessa (McKim) Gillespie he was born April 25, 1941 in Putnam County. He grew up in Putnam County and attended the Worthington Elementary School.
Vernon is survived by four brothers: Arthur Gillespie, Michael Gillespie and wife Ruth, Gilbert Gillespie, and Bobby Gillespie. Brother-in-laws Terry Oertel and George Ortel Jr. and wife Peggy, Sister-in-laws Sue Cripe and husband Dave, Lois Basquez and husband Robert, and Laura Gladfelter and husband Clyde. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce, and a sister Wanda Alfred.
Vernon worked for Missouri Mining at Hartford, Missouri for a few years. He then moved to Davenport, Iowa where he worked for several years as a welder. In 1974 he and Joyce moved to Worthington, Missouri where they made their home.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (May 5. 2015) in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Home Cemetery west of Queen City.
Pallbearers will be Alvin Shepard, Bruce May, Gary Currier, Ronald Gillespie, Janzen Spicer, and Rick Kinderman. Honorary bearers will be Zachery Robbins and Walter Clay.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (May 5, 2015) in the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, Missouri.
