Donald J. Sparks

Donald Sparks, 84, of Kirksville, formerly of Queen City, passed away Saturday (May 16, 2015) in the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The son of William and Fannie (Gillespie) Sparks, he was born May 17, 1930 in Greentop, MO. In 1948 he married Marie Conner in Lancaster, MO and to this union two sons were born. In 1963 he was married to Anna Youngman and to this union a daughter was born.

Don is survived by his wife Anna; his children, Mike Sparks and wife Patti, Donnie Sparks, and Beth Collis; his sister, Leota Rockhold; grandchildren, Shawn Sparks, Josh Sparks, Heather Sparks, Alicia Holloway, Christi Ridinger, and Danalle Collis and great-grandchildren, Parker and Riley Sparks, Brook Ann, Skyler, and Wily Sparks, Aeryn, Athon, and Aliandra Caroline Holloway, Shane and Dereck Ridinger, and Susie and Emily Larson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Roy, Emery, Lloyd and Crawford Sparks and two sisters, Dorothy Ogle and Ruth Farmer.

Don grew up in Schuyler County and attended rural Queen City Schools. He worked for J I Case Co. in Bettendorf, Iowa and Lusk Candy Co. in Davenport Iowa, International Shoe Co. and Mallory Transfer in Kirksville, and the Saw Mill in Glenwood, MO. He then worked for Schuyler County Road Maintenance for about twenty years.

Don was a member of the Queen City Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (May 19, 2015) at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Home Cemetery west of Worthington, MO.

Pallbearers will be Billy Sparks, Shawn Sparks, Randy Ogle, Donald Lee Farmer, Billy Youngman, and David Rockhold. Honorary Bearers will be Jeff Diltz and Dale Rockhold.
