Olin L. Lovekamp
Olin Lovekamp 87, of Queen City passed away Saturday night (July 4, 2015) in the Schuyler County Nursing where he had resided since May 2013.
The son of L.E. and Jesse (Beck) Lovekamp he was born October 31, 1927 in Queen City. On March 18, 1950 he was united in marriage to Mary Woods and to this union two children were born, Kathy and Terry.
Olin attended Fairview Rural School and the Queen City High School. After school Olin joined the United States Navy and served for four years. After the service he moved to Rockford, Illinois where he worked for National Lock and Key. He also met his future wife there and after their marriage they moved back to rural Queen City to the family farm where they lived until 1996. At that time they moved into Queen City.
He is survived by his children Kathy Shields and husband David of Lineville, Iowa and Terry Lovekamp of Queen City. He is also survived by six granddaughters; Laurel Owens and husband Ryan of Lees Summitt, Mo., Shelby Hickman and husband Jacob of Princeton, Mo., Kallie Shields of Springfield, Mo., Tara Lovekamp of Fremont, Nebraska, Karissa Lovekamp, and Sienna Lovekamp of Queen City, two great grand-daughters; Easton and Ellis Owens, one sister Reba Gehrke and husband Lendal of Gladstone, Mo., three nephews; Kevin Lovekamp, Trent Gehrke, and Kene Gehrke, two nieces Karla Metten and Starr Gehrke, and one sister-in-law Kathryn Lovekamp.
Olin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, two brothers Ivan and Carl, and his step-mother Pauline.
He liked to waterski, fish, and gardening. After moving to Queen City he enjoyed riding his bicycle all around town. He and Mary were very active in the Queen City Pioneer Association for many years.
He was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church, Queen City Masonic Lodge, and the Schuyler County American Legion. In later years he attended the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster.
Olin dearly loved his grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (July 9, 2015) at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Queen City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Carl Aldridge, Donald Jackson, Terry Lovekamp, Jeff Watson, Jeff McClellan, and Kevin Lovekamp. Honorary Bearers will be Trent Gehrke, Kene Gehrke, Junior Lewis, Bill Sloop, Richard Wheeler, Paul Prough, Tammy Treasure, Russell Bushnell, Curtis Harrison, and Jeff Cody.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday (July 9, 2015) at the
Dooley Funeral Home
