Kenneth Leroy Michael

Kenneth Leroy Michael, 82, of Unionville, MO passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on July 13, 2015.

Kenneth Michael was born on December 29, 1932 in Newtown, MO, the son of Byron Dale Michael and Bessie Edith (Smith) Michael. Kenneth served the United States in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Kenneth worked with his hands. He spent most of his life forming up and constructing concrete basement walls. For a time Kenneth worked for Vendo Vending Company engineering the first coin changer for vending machines. As a younger man, he did his share of hunting and fishing and later in life became an American Legion Member. Kenneth had a special bond with his dog Corky, who went everywhere with him. On August 16, 2013 Kenneth married Pam Gadberry in Powersville, MO. Above all, Kenneth enjoyed life, laughter, and being with his family.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Pam of the home and three children; son, Dave Michael and wife Misty of Northmoor, MO; daughter, Jeanette Gerlt of Stockton, MO; son, Steve Michael and wife Pam of Marshal Town, IA. Kenneth’s surviving grandchildren are Kenny Freeman and wife Joanna, Michael Gerlt, Chris Gerlt, Eric Michael, and Beth Michael-Smith and husband Quinten. Surviving step grandchildren are Scott and Brett Nickell. Kenneth’s surviving great grand children are Colin Freeman, Oliver Smith, and Alexis Day. His surviving brothers include Nelson Michael and wife Amber of Unionville, MO, C.J. Michael and wife Connie of Milan, MO, and Ted Michael and wife Dee of Hanabal, MO. A sister-in-law, Nancy Michael survives along with 4 brother-in-laws, Chuck Gilvin, Terry Gadberry and wife Debbie, Doug Gadberry and wife June, and Earnest Skipper and wife Vanna . Kenneth is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Kenneth was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Hines and Zeta Gilvin and a brother Richard Michael.

Memorials for Kenneth are suggested to the local American Legion Post #34 and may be entrusted to the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 South 27th Street, Unionville, MO 63565.
