Lucille Colene Hamilton

December 24, 1919 — July 17, 2015

Lucille Hamilton, 95, formerly of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville, MO, on Friday, July 17, 2015.

Lucille Colene Overstreet was born in Putnam County, MO, on December 24, 1919, the daughter of Clell and Eva (Herndon) Overstreet, who preceded her in death. She was reared in the Dodson School District of Putnam County and she married Kenneth Hamilton in Putnam County on December 8, 1939. Kenneth passed away on February 20, 1992.

Lucille and Kenneth made their home on Kenneth’s home place, farming there until retiring and moving to Unionville. Lucille was a typical farmer’s wife of that era, raising a garden, tending to her chickens, and enjoying her flowers. She was a quiet and reserved person who liked home life with her husband and three boys. Lucille was never heard to say a bad word about anyone and lived a life of gentleness and kindness. She liked to do crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, word search books and to read. She also liked to quilt and do fancy work for the grandkids. She was a wonderful cook who also passed that along to her granddaughters.

Lucille attended the First Baptist Church after moving to Unionville where she enjoyed her Sunday School class. She was baptized into the Kirksville Church of Christ after moving to Kirksville in 2001.

Lucille is survived by three sons, Francis Hamilton and wife Zada of Amarillo, TX; Jim Hamilton and wife Bea of Kirksville, MO; and Darl Hamilton and wife Debbie of Unionville, MO. Her four grandchildren are Jamie Pattermann, John Hamilton, Jana Munn, and Destiny Connell. Ten great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and two step great-great grandchildren also survive as well as sisters, Bernice Smith and Marjorie Jones, both of Tampa, FL, and Mary Jo Crook of Albuquerque, NM. A sister-in-law, Wilma Overstreet, of Unionville, MO, a brother-in-law, Carlos Delarosa of California and many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death by a daughter, Alena Colene, a brother, Charles Overstreet, and two sisters, Jean Campbell and Shelda Delarosa.

Funeral services for Lucille Hamilton will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 20, 2015, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Dodson Cemetery south of Unionville, MO.
