Donald Rouse, 80, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO, on Sunday, August 2, 2015. He had been a patient there for about a week.
Donald Lee Rouse was born in Sullivan County, MO, on September 23, 1934, the son of Conrad and Iona (Campbell) Rouse, who preceded him in death. Donald was reared in Sullivan County, MO, where he attended rural schools. He later married Mary Elizabeth Toveria, who preceded him in death.
Donald worked on oil rigs for several years with Brown and Root Construction out of New Mexico. He spent most of his adult life in Sullivan County where he cowboyed for a living, working stockyards, breaking and trading horses, and, in earlier years, riding bareback broncs in the rodeo. His cowboying life led him on many travels and to work with Sears Rodeo Company. He also delivered commodities to the Crow Indian Reservation for a season. Donald had a friendly, outgoing personality and he never met a stranger. He was a good storyteller. Donald liked to visit the local coffee shops where he enjoyed the conversations, coffee, and friendships.
Donald is survived by two sons, Bud Rouse of Unionville, MO, and Curt Rouse, Green City, MO; and three daughters, Connie Mayer, Unionville, MO, Twyla Raef, Lucerne, MO; and Brenda Mullenix, Unionville, MO. Nine grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents and wife, Donald was preceded in death by a grandson, Tony Lunsford.
Donald’s wishes were to be cremated. A private graveside service will be held a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Pennville Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
