John Harvey
John Harvey passed away at his home in Centerville, IA, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, January 18, 2009. He was 70 years of age.
John Leslie Harvey was born May 15, 1938 in Fruita, CO, the son of Frank and Edith (Poppleton) Harvey, who preceded him in death. He was reared in the Fruita area and then joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. After the service he worked around Fruita in the electronics industry. John later moved to Missouri and became involved in the Pest Control business, later buying and establishing Action Pest Management. John also worked as a security guard at Lake Thunderhead and was a reserve police officer for the city of Unionville, MO.
John loved his family and they were the most important people in his life. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. John was an active veteran, being a member of the Centerville VFW and a lifetime member of the Mercer American Legion. He also built hand crafted wooden memorial boxes for war veterans.
John is survived four sons, David Harvey Sasser of Colorado Springs, CO; Michael Duane Harvey of Grand Junction, CO; Steven Smith of Grand Junction, CO; and Jonathon Harvey of Centerville, IA; and three daughters, Jacqueline K. Harvey of Grand Junction, CO; Meshara Lynn McAlister of Centerville, IA; and Holly Harvey of Kirksville, MO. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive, as well as a brother, Sam Harvey of Grand Junction, CO and special friends Melissa Harvey and Randy Barber of Centerville, IA.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Harvey.
Graveside services for John Harvey will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at St. John’s Cemetery north of Livonia, MO. a visitation will be held Tuesday, January 20 from 7:00 – 8:00 at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO.
