Garold Summers, 79, passed away quietly at his home in rural Moberly, MO, on Monday, February 9th, 2009.
Garold Lavern Summers was born in Unionville, MO, on November 27, 1929, the son of Harold Noel and Laura Elizabeth (Christy) Summers who preceded him in death. He moved to Howard County, MO, as a youngster where he lived with his sister Vera and helped them on their farm. He later worked in factories in that area and then owned and operated his own grain truck. On September 18, 1949 he married Alma Huffman and they later divorced. On September 23, 1969 he married Lillian Drew who preceded him in death on December 19, 2007.
Garold lived most of his adult life in Quincy, IL, where he drove a truck for Leaser Trucking, retiring from that company in the mid 1980’s. He moved to Moberly in the summer of 2008 to be closer to family. Garold had an outgoing and jovial personality. He liked to joke and good naturedly tease others. He enjoyed socializing in local restaurants and liked country music. Garold took great pleasure in his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Garold Summers is survived by two sons, Rocky Summers of Moberly, MO, and Bill Summers and friend Betty of Beatrice, NE; and by three daughters, Neda Rea Riley and husband Carald of Higbee, MO; Laura Womack of Moberly, MO; and Elizabeth Ann Gill of Booneville, MO. A step-daughter, Cheryl Goode, of the state of Indiana also survives. Twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren survive as well.
Others who preceded Garold in death are his brothers, Harold, Richard, Donald, and Ronald Summers and three sisters, Emogene Hill, Vera Carmichael, and Betty Irene Summers. A step-son, Monte Drew, two grandchildren, Darrell Riley and Kenneth Allen, Jr., and a great grandchild also preceded Garold in death.
Funeral services for Garold Summers will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home on Friday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery. Memorials for Garold are suggested to the American Diabetes Association and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO, 63565.
