Martin E. Alexander
Martin Alexander, 80, of Queen City passed away Monday (August 17, 2015) in the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.
The son of Monerable and Ova Lee (Utt) Alexander, he was born April 29, 1935 on the family farm in rural Queen City. He grew up in the rural Queen City area and attended the rural Green Valley and Pleasant Grove schools. He attended the Queen City High School graduating with the class of 1953. On September 29, 1954, in the Queen City Christian Church he was united in marriage to Anne Murfin and to this union three children were born, twin sons David and Douglas and a daughter Louise. Martin and Anne lived in Queen City for about one year and then moved to Joliet, IL, where Martin worked for Caterpillar Tractor, serving his Tool and Dye apprenteship of four years. He worked there for a total of twelve years before moving back to Queen City. He then worked for Hollister Inc. in Kirksville for the next twenty years retiring in 1985.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Anne; his sons, David Alexander and wife Carol of Troy, MO, and Douglas Alexander of Kirkville; daughter, Louise Shaw and husband Rick of De Soto, MO; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Jones and husband Robert of Phoenix, AZ and Arloa Atkinson and husband Ronald of Queen City; and nieces and nephews.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents.
Martin was an avid traveler, especially with the Model T Ford Club, traveling all over the United States and Canada. He belonged to the Kirksville Car Club, International Model T Ford Club, and the Model T Ford Club of America.
He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Kirksville and the Queen City Pioneer Association where he helped to restore the gas engine at the old Lauer Blacksmith Shop in time for the Pioneer celebration at the end of July.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (August 20, 2015) at the Church of the Nazarene in Kirksville with Pastor Steve Johnson and Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in the New Harmony Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Applegate, Steve Raynes, Cary Moffet, Brad Johnson, Rick Shaw, and Rodney Dufur. Honorary bearers will be Bill Collis, Lloyd Dufur, Robert Daniels, Paul Applegate, and Ronald Atkinson.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday (August 19, 2015) in the
Davis-Playle- Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
