Alice Cooley, 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Unionville, MO, surrounded by her loving and caring family, on Monday, August 17, 2015.
Zeltha Alice Cooley was born in Unionville, MO, on January 5, 1920, the daughter of Frank Lee and Annis Bell (Robb) Fitzwater, who preceded her in death. She was reared in Unionville and on June 30, 1939 she married Chancie Tingley. They first made their home in rural Putnam County where Chancie worked for a local farmer and then moved to Unionville where Alice lived the remainder of her life. She was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother. She later married Howard Cooley on September 25, 1964 and he preceded her in death.
Alice’s life was filled with the love of a close knit family and others she took in as family. She loved music and looking at photo albums. She liked car rides and bird feeding and watching, careful to ward off approaching cats and squirrels. Alice was a foster mother and loved to keep in touch with all the member of the family, spending lots of time on the phone. She was a member of Broadlawn Baptist Church in Unionville, MO.
Alice is survived by two daughters, Lillian (Leroy) Elliott and Clara Johnson, and a son, Clinton Tingley all of Unionville, MO. Her surviving grandchildren are Chancie Elliott, Lillian (John) Caley, Clinton (Tina) Johnson, James (Nettie) Tingley, David (Selena) Tingley, Lanna Tingley and companion, and Lacie Tingley. Alice has fourteen great grandchildren: Evelyn (Billy) Holtel, Jennifer Dorsey, Marqueta Rodey, Jenny Elliott, James “Rudy” Elliott, Jeremy Elliott, Faith Elliott, Tracy Johnson, Brittany Johnson, Briana Johnson, Taffi Tingley, Tammi Tingley, Tamos, Tingley, and Alex Tingley. Her ten great-great grandchildren are Trevor, Matthew, Kyle, Richard, Angel, Brandon, Emerald, Eli, Chris, and Erica. She is also survived by a sister, Thelma Johnson of Centerville, IA, as well as a step-son, Henry Cooley of Chillicothe, MO, and his son David. Alice’s other “children” who she raised are Emma Jane Clark, Junior Jump, Chancie Fitzwater, and Alice Wattenbarger.
Others who preceded her in death are a grandson, Larry Tingley, and a granddaughter, Joni Elliott.
Funeral services of Alice Cooley will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 20, 2015. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
