William Ernest Clay
William Ernest Clay, 91 of Kirksville, MO passed away Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
The son of George and Myrtle (Mahoney) Clay, William was born on May 22, 1924 in Stahl, MO. He was reared and attended school in the Stahl area. He served in the U.S. Army from August 1948 until March 1949. After the service he lived in Green Castle and in Putnam County until moving to Davenport, IA. In 1995 he returned to Missouri where he worked on several farms. He loved to do woodworking. His greatest love was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
William is survived by daughters, Rose (Carl) West of Novinger, MO, Sharon Riley of Iowa; brothers, Wilbur (Linda) Clay of Martinstown, MO, Wayne Clay of Ocelo, IA; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gilbert William Dean Clay and three sisters.
Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Lipp Cemetery in Putnam County, MO with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Ledford, Alvid Shepard, Brian Gillispie and Michael Redmon.
