Junior Slaughter
Victor Junior Slaughter 86, of rural Queen City passed away Thursday evening (February 19, 2009) in Schuyler County Nursing Home.
The son of Victor L. and Louise (Blake) Slaughter, he was born October 2, 1922 in rural Queen City. On February 16, 1947 at Queen City he was united in marriage to Janice Muff who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Linda Bowers and husband Richard of Jefferson City, MO, two sons, Larry Slaughter and wife Karen and Neal Slaughter both of Queen City; ten grandchildren, Christy Smyser, Wendy (Slaughter) Williams, Rachel (Slaughter) Dudley, Amy (Bowers) Gaffney, Stacy (Bowers) Pointer, Kelley Bowers, Tara Leedom, Eric Bowers, Austin Slaughter and Mike Leedom; fourteen great grandchildren and two sisters Saline Gafney and Anna Rose and husband Leonard both of Overland Park, KS.
He was preceded in death by his father on Oct. 30, 1963, his mother on Nov. 9, 1976, one son, Russell Leon Slaughter on Jan. 8, 1996, three sisters, Ruth Western on May 14, 1970, Martha Edwards on Jan. 22, 1970, Judy Bolton on July 17, 1981 and one brother, Joe Slaughter on Jan. 25, 1975.
Junior grew up on the family farm east of Queen City, he attended the Brown rural school and the Queen City High School graduating with the Class of 1940. In January of 1945 he was drafted into the United States Army serving in the South Pacific until being honorably discharged in October of 1946. Following his discharge he returned to the family farm where he farmed until his health began to fail. He was a past member of the V.F.W.
Private Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 28, 2009) in the Dooley Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Dennis Smith officiating. Musical selections will be "I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You" and "Amazing Grace". Interment will be in the Queen City Cemetery with Military Rites.
Pallbearers will be Leon Schmitter, Shannon Smith, Wendel Gehrke, Richard Anderson, Buddy Cass and Perlie Jones.
