Alice M. Umbarger 84 of Kirksville passed away Monday (February 23, 2009) at the LaPlata Nursing Home.
The daughter of John Harrison and Grace Madge (Downs) Taylor, she was born April 6, 1924 in Centerville, IA. On June 8, 1947 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Robert E. Umbarger who preceded her in death on June 10, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Richard Taylor and two sisters, Virginia Taylor and Margaret Campbell.
Alice is survived by her children, Ann Lynn Eaton and husband Bill of Keokuk, IA and David Lantz Umbarger and wife Susan of St. Charles, MO; four grandchildren, Brent Eaton, Joshua Eaton, Matthew Eaton and Lauren Umbarger; four great grandchildren, Logan Eaton, Lantz Eaton, Kylie Eaton and Jensen Eaton; sister, Evelyn Heinberg of Kirksville and several nieces and nephews.
Alice attended grade school in Unionville, IA and graduated from High School in 1941 in Memphis, MO. She later attended Northeast Missouri State University. After her marriage to Robert they lived many years in Keokuk, IA and Indianola, IA until Robert’s retirement when they moved to Kirksville in 1986.
She was a member of the Methodist Church in both Keokuk and Indianola, IA, First Baptist Church in Kirksville and recently the Grace Community Bible Church in Kirksville. She was active in several service organizations in Keokuk and Indianola. She enjoyed bible studies and being a member of the Senior Songsters.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday (Feb. 27, 2009) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Shafer officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 26, 2009) at
