Betty Fay Nielsen

Betty Fay Nielsen, 83 of Kirksville passed away Sunday (October 18, 2015) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

The daughter of Charles Bert and Ethel Alice (Wilson) Saner, she was born January 12, 1932 in Buena Vista, Iowa. On May 9, 1949 in Mankato, MN she was united in marriage to Ellery Marlow Nielsen.

Betty grew up and attended school in Iowa. She worked as a cook in Mankato, MN until moving to Kirksville where she worked at the HiHo and then at the Florsheim Shoe Factory until she retired.

She enjoyed fishing, gardening, her pets, helping others and the family Sunday night dinners. She took great joy in her family and taking care of her sister, Gertrude.

Betty is survived by two brothers, Bert Saner and Vincent Saner of Kirksville; three sisters, Gertrude Saner of LaPlata, MO, Thelma Messer of Kirksville and Mary Simmons of Mankato, MN; one brother-in-law, James Brackney of Kirksville; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and her miniature dachshund, Marsha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Jean Brackney; and three brothers, Clarence and Charles Saner, and Bill Larsen.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (October 24, 2015) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Virgil Jones officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Llewellyn Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the
