VERA COWELL

Vera Irene Cowell, 90 of Blue Springs, Missouri formerly of Queen City, Missouri passed away Tuesday (March 3, 2009) at the St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs, Missouri.

The daughter of Bertram and Idella (Schaeffer) Mason she was born January 4, 1919 at Douds, Iowa. On August 22, 1938 at Lancaster, Missouri she was united in marriage to Novle Cowell who preceded her in death on March 5, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son Bill Cowell on April 1, 2002 and one Brother Leslie in 1985.

Vera is survived by on son Robert Cowell and wife Ann of Kirksville, Missouri, two daughters Ann Giguere and husband Malcom of Punta Gorda Florida, Donna Dusenberg and husband Gary of Blue Springs, Missouri; six grandchildren Scott Cowell, Teresa Ross, Kim Baty, Lori Bukaty, Kristin Beckman and Jenifer Schroer and ten great grandchildren.

Vera grew up in the Douds, Iowa area and attended the Douds school, graduating with the class of 1931. Following her graduation she worked in Otttumwa, Iowa where she met her husband. Following her marriage they moved to a farm west of Queen City, Missouri where she lived until 1967 when they moved to Queen City. She worked at Webster’s Clothing Store in Lancaster and the Neighborhood Youth Corp.

Vera was a member of the Queen City United Methodist Church, a 50 year plus member of the Kirksville Chapter #184 O.E.S. and Chapter G. P.E. O.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P. M. Saturday (March 7, 2009) at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Taped musical selections will be “Mansion Over The Hilltop” and “In the Garden” . Interment will be in the Queen City Cemetery. Bearers will Gary Cowell, Wendel Gehrke, Richard Wheeler, Scott Cowell, Tom Bukaty and Eric Schroer.

Visitation will be after 2:00 P. M. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 P. M. at the

Dooley Funeral Home

The family requests contributions to the Queen City Cemetery. Contributions by be left at or sent to the Dooley Funeral Home.
