Edward Skipper
Edward Leroy Skipper, 43, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2009 in Concord, North Carolina after a brief but courageous battle with leukemia.
Ed was born in Unionville, MO to Dennis and Judy Skipper on the most wonderful day of March 22, 1963.
After Ed graduated from North Scott High School (Eldridge, IA) in 1983 he enlisted in the Navy as a fire control technician on the USS Iowa and was able to travel to many different places. Ed married Beth Felice on June 1, 2002 in Charlotte, NC.
Ed’s career consisted of managing a variety of different restaurants including Applebee’s and being a partner at Outback Steakhouse. During the last few years, he worked as a management recruiter within the restaurant field. Ed and his family are members of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. Their support and love in the past few months have been amazing.
Ed was a devoted husband, a dedicated and loving Father, a wonderful Son and a special Brother. He was surrounded by the love of many family members and close friends. Ed enjoyed many hobbies such as golfing, fishing, wood working, motorcycles and water sports. He was a loyal fan to the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include parents, Dennis and Judy Skipper of Walnut Shade, MO; sister, Annette (Al) Cox of Stillman Valley, IL; wife, Beth Skipper; daughter, Nicole Skipper; sons, Jake and Kyle Riggs, of Charlotte, NC; aunts and uncles, Phylis (Vern) Seaton of Powersville, MO; Mary (Neal) Knowles of Truro, IA; Marilyn (Jack) Guffey of Powersville, MO; Ernest (Judy) Skipper of Battleground, IN; James (Virginia) Skipper of Aledo, TX ; niece, Alicia Plotz; nephews, Devon Plotz, Shawn and Spencer Cox of Stillman Valley, IL; and several cousins.
Ed was preceded in death by his grandparents; James and Geraldine Skipper of Unionville, MO and Francis and Faye Small of Centerville, IA, formally of Powersville, MO.
Pastor Bill Carter, close friend of the family, will be officiating at the funeral service. The pallbearers will be Kevin and Wes Seaton, Al Cox, Mike Skipper, John and David Guffey. Musical selections will be “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” by Kevin & Brenda Collins
Ed’s family had a visitation and funeral service in Charlotte, NC for the family and friends in the area. Another visitation will be in Unionville, MO on Tuesday, March 17 from 6 – 8 at the Playle and Jones Funeral Home. The service will be held on Wednesday, March 18 at 2 pm with the burial at Unionville, MO Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the family to start an education fund for his precious daughter, Nicole Skipper; or to The Leukemia Foundation.
