Evelyn Strobel-Deis
Evelyn Jean was born in Putnam County, MO, on September 3, 1931, the daughter of Darl & Erma (Ratliff) Steele, who preceded her in death. She passed away at her daughter’s home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 8, 2015.
Evelyn was the first in her family to graduate from High School. She joined the army in 1952 and served until the birth of her daughter, Patricia. She moved to Kirksville, MO and worked as a nurse where she met Dr. Lynn Strobel. They were married August 24, 1956. To this union two children were born, Mark and Jennifer.
Evelyn and Lynn raised their family in Garden City, MI. Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed bowling and attending all of her children’s activities. She once was a goalie for her son’s hockey team during their father-son game.
After the death of Lynn in 1982, Evelyn married Edward Deis in 1984. They retired to Foley, AL, until her declining health brought them back to Unionville in September of 2015.
Evelyn served our Lord and Savior and lived through the teachings of the Primitive Baptist and Lutheran churches. She was a member of Easter Star and volunteered her time in support of the church. She enjoyed life, loved her family and was only a phone call away. She was always there for her family and friends.
Evelyn is survived by Ed, her husband, and her children, Patricia (Ron) Worley, of Unionville, MO, Mark (Kathy) Strobel of Tyrone, GA and Jennifer (Tom) Garr of Unionville, MO, and Her grandchildren are Bryan and Charles Worley of Unionville, MO, Kelly (Bridgett) Strobel-Gibson of Locust Grove, GA, Stefanie Strobel of Peachtree City, GA, Tara Seward of Belleville, MI, and Chad Seward of Redford, MI. Great grandchildren are Ashlynn, Karen, Dustin, Ariana, Jasmine, and Hunter. Evelyn is also survived by two sisters, Anna Louuise Allan of Newton, IA, and Ruth (Ron) Kitchen of Macon, MO; and by a brother, Carl (Linda) Steele of Westfield, IA. Her step children are Dina, Kimberly, Dale and Tracy. She is also survived by five step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack Steele, who died in a car accident in 1957, her husband Dr. Lynn Strobel, and twin grandchildren, Heather and Jason Seward.
Funeral services for Evelyn will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 11, 2015, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery, Unionville, MO.
Memorials are suggested to the Unionville Cemetery or to Hospice of Northeast Missouri and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
