Charles Wilcox
Charles Lewis Wilcox, 83, of rural Martinstown, Missouri passed Saturday, April 4, 2009 in Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, IA where he had been a patient since April 1st.
The son of Clarence R. and Effie DA (Mendenhall) Wilcox, he was born February 24, 1926 in Schuyler County, MO.
Charles is survived by two brothers, Floyd Wilcox and wife, Marjorie of Lancaster, MO and Ralph Wilcox of Livonia, MO and longtime friend, Becky Drummond of Unionville, MO; seven nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Nellie Mae McFarland and brother-in-law, Earschel McFarland, a sister-in-law, Nettie Wilcox and a special friend, Barbara Duncan.
Charles attended the Red Rural School North of Glenwood, MO for a time. He attended Martinstown Grade School and three years with Martinstown High School. He graduated from the Unionville High School in 1943. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army where he attained the rank of Corporal. He served in Europe, receiving the Purple Heart before being honorably discharged in 1947. Following his discharge he worked for John Deere in Waterloo, IA until his health failed and he returned to Martinstown, MO to retire.
Charles loved the outdoors, loved to hunt, and was an avid coon hunter.
Graveside service with military rites will be Monday, April 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Lone Pine Cemetery in Putnam County, MO with Reverend Chris Myers officiating.
Pallbearers will be Colby Myers, Derek Gilworth, Cedric Gilworth, Kim Wilcox, Doug Gilworth, David Snowbarger, Jackie Buster and Rodney Fincher.
Visitation with the family will be Monday, April 6, 2009 from 12:30 -1:30 p.m. at the
Dooley Funeral Home
