Blanche LaVera (Motter) Scott of LaPlata, Missouri passed away Sunday (December 20, 2015) at the LaPLata Nursing Home.

The daughter of Samuel and Blanche (Dear) Motter, she was born August 26, 1924 in Kirksville, MO. She married Lando E. Scott in Queen City, MO on March17, 1946. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2007. Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in-law Phyllis and Charles Carlin of Waverly, IA and Lois and John Davison of LaPlata, MO, four grand-daughters; Emily (Davison) and David Hyland of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Meggan (Davison) and Adam Henry of Macon, Laura (Carlin) and Luke Brady of Edgewood, IA and Sarah Carlin of Cedar Falls, IA, and six great-grandchildren Ben and Hannah Hyland, Isaac Henry, Landon, Leo and Lenny Brady. Also surviving are two brothers, Clyde Motter and Dale Motter (Marijane) of Kirksville, sister-in-law Ellena Western and Juanita Scott, several nieces and nephews, and a special neighbor Rita Thomas. Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters-in-law Jolene Motter and Leanna Crow, brothers-in-law Charles Scott and Harry, Junior Scott, a special cousin Lena Buckingham and several aunts and uncles.

LaVera attended Benton elementary school, Junior High and Senior High schools in Kirksville. She attended Kirksville State Teachers College (Truman State). She and Lando operated their farm southeast of Kirksville from 1949 until November 2006 and she worked primarily as a homemaker, but also t Snyder’s Style Shop, Bell Brothers Electric and the Adair County Rural Water office.

LaVera was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kirksville, serving as a Vacation Bible School Teacher. She also served as a 4-H leader, officer in the Lone Star School Community Club, school volunteer, and sponsor for many school trips and events. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star #184 in Kirksville. LaVera was known for her devotion to family, excellent baking and cooking, her extensive embroidery work, and her kindness to all.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday (December 23, 2015) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor John Davison officiating. Music will be provided by John and Debbie Gorham singing, accompanied by Janis Mitten. Burial will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brent Motter, Dale Dee Motter, Ken Thomas, Melvin Fortney, Darreld Parks and Ed Scott. Honorary bearers will be Adam Henry, David Hyland, Luke Brady, Dwight Buckingham, Dana Forrester, Frank Niece, Dick Scott and Mike Western.

The family will receive friends at 12:00 noon Wednesday until the time of the service at
