Matilda Grubrich

Matilda Grubrich, 99 of Greentop, MO passed away December, 23, 2015, in Kirksville, MO.

The daughter of Charles Bartosik and Mary (Shupka) Bartosik, she was born February 1, 1916, in Connelsville, MO. Mrs. Grubrich grew up on a farm south of Novinger, MO, and attended Stinson School, where she was an excellent student. On September 4, 1935, at the courthouse in Kirksville, MO she married Marion Grubrich, they started farming in Youngstown, MO and then in 1945 moved to a grain and livestock farm east of Greentop, MO. Matilda, especially loved her family, had many friends, and welcomed visitors into her home. She was an avid vegetable gardener and great cook, especially known for her flaky pie crust and delicious fried chicken. She was a member of the Mary Immaculate Parish and looked forward to the 1st Friday of each month to attend the “Young at Heart” group.

She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Charles R. Giovannini of Kirksville, Donald Bartosik, Wilmington, NC, Marianna Giovannini Sparks of Moberly, Ron Shumaker, Moline, IL, Don Shumaker, Davenport IA, Gary Grubrich, Novinger, Mike Zeigler, LaPlata, Joe Zeigler, LaPlata, Barbara Young, McCarty, LaPlata, Cathy Moore Treasure, Kirksville, Tony Moore, Mason City, IA, Madonna Moore Reece Gillette, WY, Terry Moore, Overland Park, KS, Gary Moore, Brashear, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Matilda was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Marion Grubrich on July 27, 2001, her parents, Charles and Mary Bartosik, a brother Charles Bartosik, sisters Anna Bartosik Giovannini, Mary Bartosik Shumaker, brothers -in-law, John Giovannini, Robert Shumaker, Vance Grubrich, Steve Grubrich , sisters in law Katherine Grubrich Moore, Mary Grubrich Young, Margaret Grubrich Zeigler, Charlene Bradshaw Grubrich, Leoma Graham Grubrich, nieces Francis Bartosik O’Laughlin, Elaine Grubrich Scott , Margie Young Head, Shelia Moore Daniels, and nephews Larry E. Shumaker, John Shumaker, and Tom Moore.

A mass of Christian Burial celebrating Matilda’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 28, at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Kirksville with Monsignor David Cox and Deacon David Ream officiating. Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 am preceding the Mass.
