Dottie Pearl Cassady
Dottie Pearl Cassady, 85, of Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away Wednesday (April 8, 2009) at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Ottumwa.
She was born September 7, 1923 in Novelty, MO, the daughter of Leroy and Bessie Myrtle (Crawford) Martin. On December 24, 1945, in Girard, KS, she was united in marriage to Olen Ray Cassady, who preceded her in death in 1990. She was also preceded by, her parents, two sisters, Lorena Wagy and Jewel Lee Smith and one grandchild, Christopher Speer.
She is survived by two daughters, Paulette Speer and husband Royce of Ottumwa, IA and Donna Stiegel and husband Tom of West Des Moines, IA; one brother, James Martin and wife Patsy of Wichita, KS; one sister, Flora Belle Rebuffoni of Peoria, IL; three grandchildren, Danny Trimble and wife Maggie of Ottumwa, IA; and Joseph Stiegel and Matt Stiegel both of West Des Moines, IA; two great-grandchildren, Skylee and Daniel Trimble; a special young family friend, Cyndy Felles of Ottumwa, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Dottie attended the Kohlmyre Rural School in southern Adair County, MO, and finished her education, upon moving with her family, in the Kirksville Public Schools, graduating from Kirksville High School in 1941. She worked at the International Shoe Factory in Kirksville for several years, before she and her husband moved to Rockford, IL, where she worked for Amerock, manufacturing cabinet fixtures. In 1960 they relocated to Des Moines, IA, where she devoted herself to homemaking. In 1998 she moved to Ottumwa, IA to be near her daughter. Her hobbies included cross-stitching, embroidery, reading, flowers and gardening.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday (April 11, 2009) at 2:00 p.m. at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Jesse Elkins officiating. Special musical selections will be, "Amazing Grace" and "In the Garden". Burial will be in the Tarr Cemetery, west of Queen City.
There will be no public visitation.
Pallbearers will be Royce Speer, Danny Trimble, Joseph Stiegel, Matt Stiegel and Cyndy Felles.
