Donny Lassabe, 56, passed away at his daughter’s home in Winterset, IA, where he had been living for the past six months, on Friday, December 25, 2015. Donny had been in ill health for some time.
Donny Glin Lassabe was born in Pascagoula, MS, on July 21, 1959, the son of Alex and Dorothy Estelle (Tillman) Lassabe, who preceded him in death. Donny was reared in Mississippi and Louisiana and joined the National Guard after High School. He was honorably discharged due to health reasons. Donny married Tressie Craig in St. Tammany Parish, LA, on June 25, 1979, and she survives. Donny was married to the sea and worked in the gulf coast in the dredging. He also worked as a merchant marine for many years which allowed him to travel to places like Holland and Greenland. He worked for PMC and TL James until ill health forced him to quit.
Donny suffered a heart attack at 34 years of age and had other health issues, but he maintained his sunny and friendly disposition in all things. He was a people person who never met a stranger. Donny was a good story teller who was always willing to lend a hand. He served with the Unionville Fire Department a number of years, helping to start the Junior Fire Department. He also served as an EMT with the Putnam County Ambulance District. Donny and Tressie moved to Centerville, IA, in 1995 and to Unionville, MO, in 1996. He was well loved by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Donny is survived by two sons, Chris (Susan) Lassabe of Kirksville, MO, and Jessie (Regina) Lassabe of Centerville, IA; and two daughters, Kimberly Lassabe of Independence, LA, and Thomasena “Thomi” (Todd) Durst of Winterset, IA. His twelve grandchildren are Danielle Lassabe, Helen Lassabe, Daryn Michael Lassabe, Lukas Lassabe, Jessica Dehnel, Bailey Lassabe, Tya Lassabe, Jaylee Durst, Kyleigh Durst, Ramsey Durst, Jordan Durst, and Samantha Brooks. Four great grandchildren survive with one on the way. Donny is also survived by two brothers, Daryn (Stephanie) Lassabe of Montpelier, LA, and Darrel Register of Weatherford, TX, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Donny was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dena Joiner, who helped raise Donny, as well as several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Donny Lassabe will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Thompson Cemetery east of Unionville, MO.
