Leota Barnes

Leota Parthenia Barnes, 93, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away on Sunday morning,
April 12th at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

Leota was born December 23rd 1915 east of Queen City, Missouri to Olaf F. and Maud
(Gilliland) Coons. She grew up and went to school near Queen City.

On March 5th 1936, Leota was united in marriage to Aubrey Nelson Barnes at the home
of Rev. Ralph Smith in Kirksville. Aubrey preceded her in death on August 27th 1991.

Leota is survived by one daughter Jolene Kitzky of Mount Sterling, Illinois; one sister
Mary Louise Kuhn of Fairview Heights, Illinois; two grandsons Tracy Lee Newcomb of
Pinckneyville, Illinois and Tony Kitzky of Winnipeg, Canada; and many nieces and
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son Wayne; two sisters Helena Ayers
and Leona Jeffries; and four brothers Omer, Birney, George and Sigal Coons.

Leota was a homemaker and assisted her husband with the family farm south of
Lancaster, Missouri until 1965 when they sold their farm and moved to Kirksville. Leota
then worked for Grimm Smith Hospital for 25 ½ years and retired in 1989. After her
retirement Leota started volunteer work in 1993 at Kirksville Manor Care Center where
she could be seen quite regularly for the past fifteen years. While on the farm, Leota was
a loyal member of the New Hope Methodist Church in rural Queen City. She later
became a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Kirksville and has made many
loving friends over the years.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 Wednesday (April 15,2009) at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend David Hartsfield officating.
Musical selection will be "Precious Memories" and "In The Garden". Interment
will be in the Highland Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Kitzky, Marion Rehm,
Carl Howard, Steve Albertson, Mel Fortney and John Garlock.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 Wednesday morning until the time of the service
at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home

Memorials may be given to the VFW Foundation or the donor's choice. Contributions
can be left at the funeral home.
