Olive Elizabeth Smith 99, of Kirksville and formerly of Queen City passed away Monday (April 20, 2009) in Kirksville Manor Care Center.
The daughter of Daniel and Aggie (Botts) Smith, she was born March 3, 1910 in rural Queen City. She attended the Prairie rural school and the Queen City High School graduating with the Class of 1927. Following graduation she taught at the Barr rural school before going to Nashville, TN with her brother where she worked for a few years. She then went to Washington D.C. where she worked at the Pentagon for several years before returning to Queen City to care for her parents.
She was a long time member of the Queen City Christian Church where she taught a Sunday School Class. She loved to read and read her Bible faithfully. She lived in Kirksville with her sister for three years before they moved to Kirksville Manor Care Center.
Olive is survived by two sisters, Florence Wicklund of Kirksville Manor Care Center and Joyce Brower and husband Bob of Fort Worth, TX; two nieces, Marilyn Broseghini and Paula Guelian and four nephews; Dan and Doug Smith, Perley Smith and Dwight Brower.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Floyd and Glen Smith and an infant sister, Leta Pauline Smith.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday April 24, 2009 in the Dooley Funeral Chapel with the Reverend George Bradburn officiating. Music will be provided by Gwen Laudwig, organist, selection will be "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art". Interment will be in the Queen City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Perley Jones, Daniel Smith, David Smith, Virgil Schmitter, Gilbert Schmitter, Perley Smith and Frank Broseghini.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the
Dooley Funeral Home
