John William Guffey entered this world on August 3, 1969 in Macomb, IL, the oldest son of Jack William and Marilyn Joyce (Skipper) Guffey. John spent his childhood on the family farm in Powersville, MO. He started hunting and fishing as a young boy with his father on Grandpa James Skipper's ponds.
John enjoyed life and lived it to the max. During his school days he was actively involved with FFA where he earned his State FFA Degree. Agriculture would follow John through all of his life.
After graduating from Putnam County High School in May 1987, John furthered his education with Grand River Vocational Technical School in Chillicothe, MO, earning a Farm & Agribusiness Management Certificate.
John married Stephanie Jordan June 13, 1993. During this union John and Stephanie purchased the Guffey family farm in Unionville, MO. During this time John continued to work in agriculture as a farmhand for Gillum Farms, Bill Bruce, and Bill Cummins. He was also employed by Premium Standard Farms and as the manager of MFA in Unionville, MO. John and Stephanie operated J&S Greenhouse where he was responsible for the tomato plants.
John was made a father on July 27, 1997 when a bouncing blue-eyed red-haired girl made her appearance. Holly Jordan Guffey was the apple of her father's eye and could frequently be found riding shotgun with her dad while choring with the cows. One cow in particular, Pretty Eyes, stole both their hearts.
While the union of marriage between John and Stephanie dissolved a strong friendship continued between the two.
John relocated to Ashland, MO in 2010. It was at that time he transferred within MFA to the Columbia, MO, plant. John was happy doing work at the fertilizer plant and delivering fertilizer to the fields. He particularly enjoyed spring plantings and fall harvest.
John returned home frequently to assist with haying, harvest in the fall and deer season. He was an avid deer hunter. It never failed he would always be the first to tag a buck and some years, the only buck. This was a sport he particularly enjoyed doing with David, Holly and Trevor.
John leaves behind a significant other, Jonna Kenniston of Camdenton, MO. During their relationship they traveled to the Gulf Shores. He shared his passion of farming with her on their return trips back to Powersville. She held a very special place in his heart.
John will be greatly missed by his daughter Holly Guffey of Ashland, MO, parents Jack and Marilyn Guffey of Powersville, MO, brother David (Kari) Guffey of Powersville, MO, and a sister Sherry (Todd) Wallis of Moberly, MO.
John was a kid at heart and will be missed tremendously by his nieces and nephews, Courtney Guffey, Trevor Guffey, Tori Guffey, Hayley Wallis and Nathan Wallis.
