John Hardman
John Hardman, 75, of Lemons, MO, passed away unexpectedly at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, MO, on Wednesday April 22, 2009.
John Robert Hardman was born August 1, 1933 in Newtown, MO, the son of Roscoe William and Jessie Olive (Boyd) Hardman, who preceded him in death. He attended High School in Newtown.
John worked for his brother-in-law, Rex Michaels, on a farm until entering the United States Army on June 7th, 1953. He was in the 3rd armored division (Spearhead) and served in Korea and Germany until being honorably discharged on June 28, 1961, serving seven years, ten months, and two days. On October 26, 1958, John married Donna Joan Mills in Pollock, MO, and she survives at home.
John drove a milk truck for Daryl Steele after returning from the service. He also worked at McGraw-Edison in Centerville and then went to work with the Missouri Department of Transportation Maintaintenance Department, working out of the Lucerne shed. John retired in 1991 after 22 years of service.
John was an active member of the Neil Smith Post #251 in Lemons, MO, for 51 years and served as adjutant for 31 years. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family and John never met a stranger. John was baptized October 7th, 1958.
In addition to his wife, John is also survived by a son, William (Bill) Hardman and two daughters, Debra Moss and her husband Roger and Diane Hendee and her companion Kendall Russell, all of Unionville, MO. John’s four grandchildren are Shawna Lewis and her husband Doug, Chris, Jesse, and Skyler Hendee. Two great grandchildren also survive and they are Mackenzie and Alexis Lewis. A surviving sister is Wilma Fern Michaels and her husband Rex of Trenton, MO.
Funeral services for John Hardman will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home on Saturday, April 25th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Bob Curp will conduct the services with recorded musical selection, “When I Get to Where I’m Going.” Casket bearers will be Jesse Hendee, Chris Hendee, Skyler Hendee, Doug Lewis, Kendall Russell, Roger Moss, Tony Bunnell, and David Michael. Interment will be in the Lemons Cemetery.
Memorials for John Hardman are suggested to the Lemons Auxiliary for the storage building that houses medical supplies at Lemons. Contributions may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
