Ethel Vera Blackmon, 99 of Kirksville passed away Thursday (April 23, 2009) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of R.H. and Dora (Cheyney) Bailey, she was born June 2, 1909 in Green City, Missouri. In 1926 she married Clyde Vance and he preceded her in death in 1968. On January 3, 1971 she married Jesse Clayton Blackmon and he preceded her in death in 1998.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Howard Vance and one daughter, Jolene Vance.
Ethel is survived by two daughters, Doris Mitchell and husband Dale of Bethany, MO and Lois Stutsman and husband John of Florissant, MO; 10 grandchildren, Dalene Madison and husband Richard, David Mitchell and wife Barbara, Dennis Mitchell and wife Rhonda, Jane Middleton and husband Kenny, Debbie Herring, Darcy Willis and husband Jerry, John Stutsman and wife Kathy, Marsha Stutsman, Mark Stutsman and Lisa Bommarito and husband Rick; 18 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.
Ethel was a member of the First Baptist Church and was very active in church activities. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to do volunteer work and enjoyed sewing and playing cards.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (April 25, 2009) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Marty Joplin officiating. Music will be provided by Cheyrl Newland, playing and singing, “Beyond The Sunset” and “One Day At A Time”. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Dave Mitchell, Dennis Mitchell, John Stutsman, Jerry Willis, Kenny Middleton and Rick Bommarito. Honorary bearers will be Richard Madison and Mark Stutsman.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
