PETER GUST KOUMAS, B.S, M.B.A., age 86, passed away Friday, April 24, 2009. Peter was born May 22, 1922 in Chicago, IL. He served in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps, European Theater during WWII. Peter earned his B.S. in Commerce from the University of Illinois, Urbana, in 1951, and his M.A. in Business Administration/Education from Northeast Missouri State University in 1975.
Peter was the Controller, Secretary and Treasurer at John Dickinson Schneider Inc. in Chicago, IL from 1956 to 1964, and then joined its parent company, Hollister Corporation as Vice President and Kirksville Plant Manager from 1964 to 1973. Following his retirement from Hollister Corporation in 1973, he was a part-time instructor for seven years at Northeast Missouri State University in the areas of Marketing and the Principles of Business. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa.
Peter’s local associations included: Kirksville Chamber of Commerce President in 1968; Membership in the Kirksville Planning and Zoning Board for 9 years; Membership in the United Fund Board for 10 years and serving as its President for 5 years; Membership in the YMCA Board for 3 years; and was Treasurer and Teen Advisor for the Adair County March of Dimes for 5 years.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents Constantine and Sophia Koumas. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Annelotte Koumas; 3 brothers, Nick, George and Paul Koumas of Chicago IL and 1 sister, Mary (Koumas) Young of Lake Worth FL; 3 children, Peter C. Koumas IV., D.O of Columbus OH, Christine G. Bettis of Little Rock AR, and Michael E. Koumas, D.O. of Columbus OH; and 6 grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Tuesday, April 28, from 6-8 p.m.
