Recil Mae Sayre

Recil Sayre, 85, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, MO, on Tuesday afternoon, March 1, 2016.

Recil Mae was born near Green City, MO, on August 10, 1930, the daughter and only child of Cecil L. “Sam” and Edith (Harding) Wallace, who preceded her in death. Recil received her education at the Red school near Green City and at Unionville High School. Recil was united in marriage to Lloyd Thompson in Princeton, MO, on September 27, 1958, and he preceded her in death on October 10, 2000. Recil married Albert Elba Sayre in Milan, MO, on September 21, 2005, and he preceded her in death on July 29, 2014. She was also preceded in death by a step-son, Larry Thompson of the state of Illinois, and by aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Recil is survived by a daughter, Cathy Carson, and a son, Garry Thompson, both of Unionville, MO. Also surviving is a step-son, Steve Sayre, of Kirksville, MO, and five step-grandchildren.

Recil lived most of her life in the Unionville area, moving there with her parents in 1946. She loved horses and was a member of the Unionville Saddle Club for a number of years. She was a member of the Unionville United Methodist Church which she attended regularly until her health would not permit her to do so. Recil was an avid collector of antiques, especially clocks, dolls, angels, and quilts. She would spend many hours cutting out quilt pieces, knitting, crocheting – anything to do with using her hands. Recil will be remembered by those who knew her for her contagious laugh and beautiful smile. She will be sadly missed by those who knew her.

Graveside services for Recil Mae Sayre will take place at the Unionville Cemetery at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 5, 2016. There will be no visitation.

Memorials for Recil are suggested to the Unionville United Methodist Church or the Unionville Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
